Posidonia 2018 is set to see over 1,900 companies from 91 countries representing the full spectrum of the maritime industry from June 4-8 at the Athens Metropolitan Expo.

The exhibition is expected to attract over 22,000 shipping executives and government delegation members.

While the exhibition floor will be a beehive of activity there are also 60 events on the conference and seminar programme. Issues to be tackled include shipping policy, trade and finance, class issues, energy, technology, port development, fuels and lubricants, water ballast treatment, the tanker and dry bulk markets, hull performance, scrubbers, the environment, human performance and employment plus claims and dispute resolution.

IMO secretary general Kitack Lim and Bimco's president, Anastasios Papagiannopoulos, ECSA chairman Panos Laskaridis, Intercargo chairman, John Platsadakis, Intertanko’s Nicos Tsakos and Union of Greek Shipowners president Theodore Veniamis will present keynote speeches during the week along with some of the leading names across the industry as the focus will frequently be on how advances in technology and alternative business models are rewriting the rules regarding how ships are owned, operated and traded.

Indeed, more shipowners than ever have committed to participate in the conference programme, which will take place inside and outside the Metropolitan Expo exhibition centre.

An example of what to expect is the Institute of Energy for SE Europe (IENE) which is organising a seminar on “Energy and Shipping”. The particularly important role played by the Greek merchant fleet in the transportation of global energy commodities has prompted IENE to organise this pioneering event in collaboration with Posidonia and with the active participation of a number of ship operators, energy traders and leading legal firms.

Japan's Posidonia seminar will focus on the role of innovation in the maritime industry and its impact on environmental conservation and technology.

The 'Korean-Hellenic Maritime Cooperation Forum' will focus on Korean shipbuilding industry and in cooperation with Greek shipping companies and will also provide insight in Korean ship finance and Greek maritime policy.

The 'Support the Local Maritime Industry Summit' is organised by Newsfront / Naftiliaki which will bring together member companies of the Hellenic Marine Equipment Manufacturers & Exporters - Hemexpo, and the technical directors of Greek and international shipping companies and engage them in an interactive dialogue which will benefit both Greek equipment makers, their clients and shipping at large.
