Wartsila launches new AHTS design at Sea Asia

The well-known designer of offshore supply vessels has come up with a solution to meet current needs for higher energy efficiency and lower emissions. The focus of the new design is on simplicity, efficiency, low fuel consumption and a reduced environmental impact.

The equipment solutions are meant to meet the needs of medium to large-sized AHTS vessels and one of the key features is a two-speed gearbox system. This meets the design targets of reduced costs and less complexity without comprising operational safety, resulting in an estimated reduction of 20% to 25% in fuel consumption compared to conventional diesel mechanical four-engine solutions and a commiserate reduction in exhaust emissions.

With more than 50 years of experience in ship design, the new Wartsila series of AHTS designs features bollard pull of 180 tonnes, with options for 150 tonnes or 220 tonnes, and a hybrid propulsion system with a two-speed gearbox.
