Seatrade Maritime Middle East Virtual 2020 gets underway today as professionals from around the world connect online for a three-day virtual experience featuring a topical series of live and on-demand content; an online exhibitor zone with over 120 suppliers; several international pavilions including 30 suppliers from Jiangsu; the presentation of Seatrade Maritime Awards 2020 and crucial opportunities to network with likeminded professionals.

The agenda for today begins at 10:00AM Gulf Standard Time with opening headline session The Road to Recovery Forum, which is sponsored by DP World and will bring together a panel of heavyweights from around the world to discuss the impact of the pandemic on shipping markets and provide an outlook for the Middle East. The session will feature an opening video message from Secretary-General of International Maritime Organization, Kitack Lim and a keynote from Abdulla Bin Damithan, Chief Commercial Officer, DP World UAE Region ahead of an engaging panel discussion, which sees involvement from International Maritime Organization; DP World; The UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure; BIMCO and International Chamber of Shipping.

Hessa Al Malik, Advisor to the Minister for Maritime Transport Affairs, The UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and panellist for The Road to Recovery Forum said: “The industry today is going through a massive shift due to the disruption caused by the global pandemic. We are heading towards a new era with the adoption of digitalization and smart transformation. To shed light on the developments and the challenges the industry is facing, it is imperative to unite the leaders and professionals from the industry. Throughout the three days, over 50 leading experts and analysts will provide insightful live discussions on a breadth of key market themes including the journey to zero emissions; the adoption of digitalisation; the future of the global supply chain and seafarer sustainability.

Today’s agenda also includes the announcement of the winners of Seatrade Marine Awards Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa Awards 2020, which this year celebrates its 17th anniversary with its first virtual presentation and takes place at 2PM Gulf Standard Time.
