Harry Theochari awarded an OBE

Maritime London Harry Theochari
Harry Theochari, Chair of Maritime London and one of the sector’s most renown lawyer, has been awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Theochari has been made an Officer of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to the maritime industry. He took up the role of chair of Maritime London in January this year, is a Senior Consultant to Norton Rose Fulbright, sits on the Institute of Maritime Law Advisory Board of the University of Southampton, and is Chair Emeritus of Maritime UK.

Lord Mountevans, Immediate Past Chair of Maritime London said: “This recognition on behalf of Her Majesty is a very well deserved honour for Maritime London's Chair. Harry is a passionate champion not only for the UK's maritime services but for all of the UK's maritime industries, as he demonstrated so clearly during his recent chairmanship of Maritime UK.”

Speaking to the Maritime Podcast earlier this year Theochari outlined his priorities as Chair of Maritime London and highlighted the need for a dedicated UK Shipping Minister and better export finance for the sector. Listen to the episode to find out more on his views on UK shipping and maritime:

Jos Standerwick, Chief Executive of Maritime London said: “As his many industry accolades attest, Harry has been a leading ship finance lawyer for over three and a half decades and successfully led the team at Norton Rose Fulbright from 1996 through a time when the ship finance landscape has fundamentally shifted.”

“He has also been an endlessly energetic advocate for the commercial shipping and professional services of the UK, culminating in his Chairing of the umbrella body for the maritime sector Maritime UK, and his current role as Chair of Maritime London. This award on behalf of Her Majesty is great news and a clear recognition of Harry’s contribution to the industry,” Standerwick added.
