Green Technologies Seminar Feeds Growing Interest From Industry
ClassNK and Seatrade co-hosts 3rd Green Technologies Seminar in Singapore 10 April 2014, Thursday, Singapore – Leading classification society ClassNK together with Seatrade, the global publisher and events organiser, co-hosted the third Green Technologies Seminar for senior shipping executives in Singapore on Tuesday during the Singapore Maritime Week. It was the third time the seminar was held in less than a year, showing the rapidly rising interest in green issues in shipping

Recognising the significance and importance of R&D, ClassNK committed some 17 percent of its 2013 annual revenue to R&D spend. In 2009, ClassNK launched its Joint R&D for Industry programme for maritime research. The programme is currently ClassNK's largest R&D expense as revealed by ClassNK Chairman and President Noboru Ueda. As at February 2014, 150 projects have been completed under this programme, some of which were shared during the seminar.

Seatrade chairman Chris Hayman complimented ClassNK for their frontrunning role in driving innovation. "ClassNK should be applauded for supporting the industry in innovation development when they most needed it," he said.

Almost 150 delegates benefitted from the knowledge and research findings of a wide variety of experts in fields ranging from the use of clean energy and renewables in shipping to current issues such as Ballast Water Management Systems and various methods to increase efficiency in shipping.

The seminar also saw a variety of companies such as Maersk Line sharing their experiences on their corporate journey towards greater sustainability as various solutions being offered. These included Nippon Paint Marine's award winning A-LF-Sea anti-fouling coating which won the Seatrade Asia Awards Technical Innovation Award this year.
