Mr Li Shaode honoured with the Seatrade Lifetime Achievement Award 2013

Mr Li Shaode honoured with the Seatrade Lifetime Achievement Award 2013
The 25th Seatrade Awards Ceremony Dinner took place on Friday night at London's Guildhall in the presence of IMO Secretary-General, Koji Sekimizu, Chairman of the panel of judges of the Seatrade Awards. Over 350 members of the maritime community celebrated the outstanding contributions made over the last year for safe, efficient and environmentally friendly shipping. Master of Ceremonies, Stephen Sackur presented the awards.

Mr Li Shaode, Chairman, China Shipping (Group) Company was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award (sponsored by Oman Drydock Company). The Award recognised Mr Li Shaode's outstanding contribution to the shipping industry spanning over a career of more than 40 years and recognises his rich knowledge in shipping management and operation.

Mr Li Shaode said: "It is with great honour I receive this award and wish to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Secretary General, Koji Sekimizu, to my friends in the shipping industry and everyone that has supported and encouraged me. Strategy and prudent operations are important and innovation brings vitality to our industry. I will remember today forever and will share my experience with young people in the community and my colleagues."

Dr Martin Stopford, President of Clarksons Research Services, was presented with the Seatrade 25th Anniversary Personality: Shipping Intelligence Award 2013 (sponsored by ClassNK) at the Seatrade Awards Ceremony Dinner on Friday 10 May 2013. The award was in recognition of his major contribution to the industry.

Dr Martin Stopford proudly said: "I wish to start off by saying thanks to my colleagues at Clarksons Research Services. The last 40 years have been quite amazing. I have seen a great deal of change since the early 70's. We now see a lot of movement of goods and can see how the industry has completely changed in some parts. The growth of the container business was not obvious; the shipping industry has done this at a reasonable cost and notably through a recession. Sitting through the presentation this evening it is great to see who's going to take us forward and I wish everyone a great future."

The Countering Piracy Award (sponsored by DP World), was awarded to His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UAE and was accepted on his behalf by His Excellency Abdulrahman Al –Mutaiwee, UAE Ambassador to the UK.

His Excellency Abdulrahman Al-Mutaiwee said: "The rise of piracy hurts and damages peace and security globally". And he went on to say that "The UAE wishes for piracy to be eradicated, an ambitious wish but one we all strive for."

The Seatrade Young Person in Shipping Award went to Dr Priyath Wickrama, chairman of Sri Lanka Ports Authority, for his work in developing Sri Lankan ports, especially for arrival of Maersk's Triple-E vessels later this year.

The IMO 2013 themed award: Sustainable Development – IMO's contribution beyond Rio+20 (sponsored by DNV), in support of the IMO's theme for World Maritime Day for 2013 was awarded to A.P Moller Maersk and accepted on their behalf by Mr Jacob Sterling, Head of Environment and CSR, Maersk Line.

Mr Jacob Sterling said: "This year's IMO theme is a great one, promoting sustainability in our industry. It is an integral part of how we do business. Corporate responsibility is not just focussed on doing the right thing for our industry but it is also about recognising the risks and acting on them efficiently".

The Seatrade Global Performer 2013 Award presented to Mr Saleh N Al-Jasser, CEO, Bahri recognises the recent merger between NSCSA and Vela, which demonstrates Bahri's sincere dedication to the industry and portrays Bahri's great achievement of expanding and developing in order to meet the ever growing needs of international trade and logistics.
