The presentation was made by the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades to Safe Bulkers ceo Polys V Hajioannou during the biennial Maritime Cyprus conference that took place in Limassol last week.
Listed on the New York Stock Exchange, Safe Bulkers established an affiliate ship management arm, Safe Bulkers Management Ltd, in Cyprus in 2015. Today it employs 50 people on the island, having also recently acquired offices in Limassol.
Accepting the award, Hajioannou said he had never for a moment regretted moving both his company and family to Limassol, which he described as a very warm and cosmopolitan city.
Safe Bulkers is understood to operate a fleet of around 50 medium and large size bulk carriers – including Panamax, Kamsarmax, post-Panamax and Capesize vessels – with an average age of 8.5 years, nearly all of which fly the Cyprus flag.
