Warship diversification?

Warship diversification?
Two recurrent themes at conferences and seminars at Posidonia 2014 were diversification and value destruction. However, George Prokopiou, chairman of Dynagas LNG Partners, was probably the only one to combine the in the fashion that he did.

Prokopiou told a tale of how ancient Greek shipowners also owned warships and some diversified into owning both military and commercial ships.

“In the ancient times not only the commercial ships, but the warships were owned to private owners and some owners they were diversifying by having both warships and commercial ships,” Prokopiou told the Capital Link seminar.

The problem was the two businesses were not complimentary.

“They have seen when they were hired and inflicting great damage on one city then the other sector was suffering because trade goes away when you destroy a city state. So they agreed between them when they are hired to do moderate damage so the other part could do good business and re-build the area,” he explained, to much laughter and applause from the audience.

Another owner on the panel quipped he was now thinking of investing in warships.
