Dr Gu Hai, Vice President, Innovation Research Center for ABS, believes that with government involvement green corridors could shape the future of shipping and play a major role in the decarbonisation of the industry. It is therefore important for ABS to be involved in these initiatives.

Many ports including Singapore have signed Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs), to develop shipping corridors, however, bringing these agreements to successful fruition will require a great deal of complex planning between multiple stakeholders, and this is where ABS believes it can play a key role.

In an effort to make the planning process more efficient and identify the most effective course that different partners should take in the green shipping corridor ABS has built up a simulation capability where it can build a model that will show how plans will work for the next five or 10 years. The simulation allows the participants to try out a variety of models and see which works best ahead of making actual investment.

Dr Gu Hai explains to Seatrade Maritime Special Report on Singapore, “This tool will be very powerful to help different stakeholders to decide what will be the best setting for the green corridor and what they need to do from their perspective. That's why we created this simulation capability.”
