The announcement by MSC comes a week after the surprise announcement that Toft was leaving the Danish shipping company with immediate effect.
Toft is joining the family owned company to support the Aponte family reporting directly to directly to Diego Aponte, group president, and Gianluigi Aponte, founder and group chairman.
“MSC is delighted that Mr Toft will be supporting the Aponte family at the helm to ensure that the company remains a global leader in the years to come,” MSC said.
The move sees a shift by the Aponte family to bring in an outside professional to run its container and logistics business.
Toft joins MSC after 25 years with Maersk, which is both MSC’s partner in the 2M alliance and its biggest rival in container shipping.
“MSC is confident that this appointment will bring significant value to its cargo businesses, building on the company’s existing strengths and boosting its development plans even further,” MSC said.
Toft will be relocating to Geneva and MSC said his starting date with the company will be announced in due course.
