“APL is expanding our presence in the Asia Mediterranean/Europe trade lane where we currently offer seven services that connect Asia to the Mediterranean and Europe. With the two new port additions to the BEX, we will markedly improve coverage of the Eastern Mediterranean to meet our customers’ growing needs.” said Calvin Leong, chief trade officer of APL.

With the new port calls, the BEX will call the ports of Kwangyang, Busan, Yangshan, Ningbo, Chiwan, Port Klang, Port Said West, Beirut, Iskenderun, Izmit, Istanbul, Constanta and Odessa. The first sailing will depart Kwangyang on 27 July 2016.

Meanwhile, France’s CMA CGM closed its takeover offer for Neptune Orient Lines (NOL), which owns APL, owning 97.83% of the Singapore-listed container line.
