HHI completes LNG vessel demonstration system
Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has claimed to be the world’s first shipbuilder to have built a complete real-size LNG vessel demonstration system, allowing operators to directly verify performance and safety of core facilities of LNG ships.
The South Korean shipbuilder first set up a 25-megawatt LNG fuel supply system demonstration facility in Ulsan back in 2012 and added a 85-megawatt system in 2015, before finally incorporating a LNG regasification system to complete the demonstration facility for LNG vessels.
HHI said that its self-developed LNG fuel supply system named Hi-GAS has ran through the earlier version of the demonstration facility and was installed onto an LNG carrier delivered in September 2016.
Going forward, HHI plans to install its LNG regasification system named Hi-ReGAS in its LNG FSRU, a newbuild order placed by Hoegh LNG Holdings in January this year.
