The contract is to convert the Moss LNG carrier Gimi into an FLNG and follows a $735m contract inked in July last year to convert the LNG carrier Hilli for Golar LNG. Golar LNG has one further option with Keppel.
As with the first conversion Keppel will engage Black & Veatch to provide design, procurement and commissioning support services for the topsides.
"We are happy that Golar LNG is proceeding with their second FLNGV conversion, and would like to thank them for once again entrusting Keppel Shipyard as their lead contractor of choice. This second contract comes just six months after the first contract, and we are encouraged by this positive development,” said Michael Chia, managing director, marine and technology, for Keppel Offshore & Marine, parent of Keppel Shipyard.
Construction will only start once a notice to proceed is received, which is expected by November 2015, and the conversion is expected to take 33 months to complete.
