The engine maker said it would supply a single MAN B&W 8S50ME-GI dual-fuel engine for each of the newbuildings. UECC ordered two 3,800 ceu dual-fuel car carriers from Nantong Cosco KHI Ship Engineering in March this year for delivery in the second half of 2016.

Once in service the vessels will be able to complete a 14-day round voyage in the Baltic Sea entirely powered by LNG. From 1 January 2015 the North and Baltic Seas will come under a 0.1% sulphur limit emission control area (ECA) meaning owners will either have to use MGO, fit scrubbers or find an alternative cleaner fuel such as LNG.

UECC has signed an exclusive contract at the port of Zeebrugge for the supply of LNG bunkers.
