Chant, currently SMI’s business development director, has been appointed to replace current chief executive John Murray when he retires at the end of the year.
Russell Gould, chairman of SMI said: “After a rigorous selection process from a strong field of candidates, I am delighted to confirm Tom, Chant as chief executive designate. During the interview process Tom impressed the panel that he had the vision and drive to take up the leadership of SMI from John Murray”.
On his new appointment Chant commented: “I feel privileged to have been appointed the next chief executive and to lead SMI in its role of representing one of the UK’s largest industrial sectors.”
“The role enables me to work at the highest level for companies as we seek to develop opportunities and push for a better business environment for them. I have been selected at an interesting time, but look forward to working with member companies in seeking new business and representing their interests.”
