Launched with the aim of reaching 34,000 children by 2020, DP World employees would deliver a range of modules in schools around the globe as part of their volunteering leave.

The first lessons have been piloted in the UAE, India, Pakistan, Senegal, the UK, Argentina and the Philippines, and will be rolled out from June across the rest of DP World’s network of six continents.

The launch of the programme follows a DP World/YouGov survey of parents of 6 -14 year olds in the Middle East and North Africa, showing less than 30% of parents of school children understand what trade and logistics means. DP World called logistics, ports and trade “a little-known and often overlooked part of the world economy.”

“Education is one of the four focus areas of our community investment strategy - part of the Our World, Our Future global sustainability programme,” said Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, DP World Group chairman and ceo. “As a leader in global trade and logistics, we want to ensure that our people and our resources support education.

“Raising awareness about the maritime sector, trade and logistics, and related career options is important for us as a business and also the communities in which we operate around the world. We expect this programme to make a genuine impact, creating lasting change and an understanding of how the modern world works for the benefit of future generations,” concluded Bin Sulayem.
