China Merchants Port invests in 5G innovation lab development

CMHIT, a subsidiary of China Merchants Port, has entered into a IT system development agreement with Shekou Assets Management to develop a 5G innovation laboratory.

China Merchants Holdings (International) Information Technology Company Limited (CMHIT) is an information technology solution provider specialising in the port, terminal and logistics industries.

The total investment in the 5G innovation laboratory is RMB15m ($2.14m).

CMHIT plans to complete a trial 5G-based driverless truck system, shore bridge, field remote bridge control system, and smart security system before November 2020.

By December 2021, the company will complete the research results of the 5G innovation laboratory and formulation of a 5G smart port technology standard, and will promote the application of 5G smart port related technologies and results in domestic and global ports.

China Merchants Port has been actively participating in the intelligent port development and established cooperation relationships with several domestic information technology and communication industry players.
