Speaking to Seatrade Maritime News at CMA Shipping 2022, Ayten Yavuz, Regional Manager Marine Lubricants NW Europe & Americas, Chevron, said co-operation was central to its lubricant trials with Jan De Nul.

"It's really important when field testing for new applications and developing products to have a solid customer relationships as well as working closely with an OEM. The supplier needs to have access to a field test and the customer is looking for a solution to operational challenges. The partnership is based on trust, expertise, professionalism, transparency, and data and that's key for a win-win situation," said Yavuz.

Yavuz said that Chevron was engaged in a number of pilots as it faces the challenge of developing cost effective lubricants that will work with different marine fuels, lower carbon engine oils and marine engine oils that will help lower lower fuel consumption.

Looking ahead, Chevron has a few new products on the way in 2022.

"To deal with changing fuel variants and new engine designs, MAN has launched a new strategy to improve the performance of engine oils. They have now introduced two different categories, CAT1 and CAT2. We expect to launch our new 40 bn marine cylinder lubricant in the second half of 2022. We will also launch in the second half of 2022 to a low bn TPO, trunk pistion engine oil, which will provide more engine cleanliness and it will be compatible with our current range of TPOs," said Yavuz.
