Frew is expected to take up the position in Denmark on 1 October 2013 and will be assisted by outgoing secretary general Torben Skaanild for a period of six months.

Since joining the UK Chamber of Shipping in 2009, Frew has overseen a rebranding of the chamber as well as a move to new premises and renewed focus on championing the UK shipping industry. He has previously served as president and ceo of container leasers GE SeaCo SRL, and senior vice president of the container division at Sea Containers Ltd.

Torben Skaanild commented, "Angus Frew has had a distinguished career in business and the shipping industry, in several parts of the world and brings so many special qualities to Bimco. Bimco is very much looking forward to having him at the helm."

"I am absolutely delighted to be appointed Secretary General of Bimco, the largest and most prestigious international maritime association. I was brought in to reinvigorate the UK Chamber of Shipping and this has been successfully completed. I look forward to further building upon the excellent achievements that Torben and the Bimco team have delivered over the last five years," added Frew.
