Podcast: In Conversation with Mikal Boe, CEO of Core-Power

In this latest In Conversation episode of the Maritime Podcast Seatrade Maritime News Editor Marcus Hand talks to Mikal Boe, CEO of Core-Power, about developing atomic power for shipping using the marine Molten Salt Reactor (m-MSR).

The pathway to decarbonisation is the biggest issue facing shipping over the long-term with most solutions focusing on fuels such as hydrogen, ammonia and methanol.

But there is another option attracting growing serious interest – advanced atomic power using small-scale Molten Salt Reactors (MSR) to either power vessels directly or produce green fuel such as hydrogen using floating offshore production.

Mikael Boe discusses how these liquid-fueled micro reactors could be used to directly power ships or produce zero-carbon fuels on offshore floating production plants. The wide-ranging conversation covers pilot projects, market acceptance, regulatory issues and public perception and safety concerns.

Is atomic energy the answer to shipping’s decarbonisation conundrum? Listen to the podcast with Mikael Boe in the player above and decide for yourself.
