Setting up of the new Maritime College in Khor Fakkan follows the signing of an MoU between Sharjah Ruler Dr. Sultan bin Mohammad Al-Qasimi and AAST’s Prof. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar Ismail Farag (pictured) in January this year.
Sharjah emirate wants to emulate the same uplift in maritime knowledge and expertise on the east coast of UAE as has occurred in Dubai and Abu Dhabi on the west, according to AASTMT Sharjah Branch officials exhibiting at this week’s Seatrade Offshore Marine and Workboats Middle East event in Dubai.
The Sharjah Maritime College will offer a mixture of practical and theoretical studies running over four years (eight semesters) leading to one of the following:
• BSc in Maritime Transport Technology + 2nd Mate certificate of competency
• BSc in Marine Engineering Technology + 3rd Engineer certificate of competency
• BSc in Marine Engineering Technology + ETO certificate of competency.
First courses begin on October 12, with an initial initial of 90 students, Capt. Prof. Ahmed Abdulatif told Seatrade Maritime News.
