CMA CGM breathes life into Liberian port

CMA CGM breathes life into Liberian port
The CMA CGM group has become the first shipping line to add a call at Buchanan, in Liberia, for two decades.

The new call, added to CMA CGM’s PC north service, which operates four 1,600 teu general cargo vessels, will enable Buchanan port to export locally sourced wood, rubber, palm oil and minerals. The first ship to make the new call will be the Spero, on 24 March.

The move will also connect Buchanan to CMA CGM’s long haul services through the Tangiers hub, enabling the port to import materials from around the globe.

The move as part of CMA CGM’s recent campaign to expand its service offering to the continent, with the news of a new Mozambique service dubbed “Rhino Express” in January and a new “Noura Express” service to Somalia.

As of 24 March, PC north port rotation will go from Tangiers on to Nouakchott, Banjul, Freetown, Monrovia, Buchanan, and return to Tangiers.

“We are proud to be the first and sole carrier to offer the coverage of Buchanan in Liberia thus demonstrating our commitment to our African customers," said Mathieu Friedberg, CMA CGM senior vp African Lines. "This innovation reflects our continuous focus to understand our customers in Africa and better respond to their needs.”
