Drydocks World launches maritime industry council
Dubai: Drydocks World, the Dubai-based maritime industry service provider, has formed Dubai Council for Marine and Maritime Industries (DCMMI), a specialised non-profit trade and industry council to promote the interests of the marine and maritime industry in Dubai and the UAE.

DCMMI represents a wide cross-section of the UAE’s marine and maritime industry, including offshore and engineering, ship repair and maintenance, shipbuilding and conversion, and rig building, chandlery and yacht services. The Council operates under the auspices of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

“We are privileged to begin this endeavor along with 14 other key contributors to the industry.  This has been formed as a result of an imminent need for a body that looks into the requirements of companies and societies directly linked to the maritime sector.

“The Council, which will offer membership to various relevant organisations, will address pressing issues and will further the development of the industry,” said Khamis Juma Buamim, chairman of Drydocks World and Maritime World.

The sectors are represented by operators, ship owners, charterers, marine legal service providers, ship managers, brokers, P&I clubs, port operators, marine insurance companies, ship chandlers and yacht manufacture, maintenance and management companies.

As well as most established local and international manufacturers and suppliers of marine and offshore components, it also represents marine and offshore engineering contractors and companies directly related to the industry, including classification societies and marine consultants.
