Egypt rolling out incentives for vessels to call its ports

Suez Canal Authority
Egypt is rolling out incentives for ships that call its ports and transit the Suez Canal.

According to shipping agents GAC the Egyptian government has announced a package of incentives and discounts up to 45% on fees for navigational aids and lighthouses for vessels calling at Egyptian ports and transiting the Suez Canal.

The initiative aims to increase the number of vessels calling at Egypt's ports and attract major container shipping alliances to call at the country's terminals. According to GAC there will be a reduction in procedures and paperwork for the transhipment of containers and bunkering.

The new incentives are also designed to stop the duplication of fees related to canal transit and other port dues.
