Mwani Qatar launches direct container service with Port of Sohar, Oman
Qatar Ports Management Company (Mwani Qatar) has a launched as three times weekly service linking with the Port of Sohar, Oman under Milaha’s DMJ service in a bid to beat the disruption to imports and exports following a ban by a number of neighbouring countries.

The service between Hamad Port and Sohar was announced at a news conference on Monday.

“In light of the recent developments in the region, Mwani Qatar and its partners have ensured the business continuity of its ports and shipping operations in and out of Qatar to mitigate the impact of any action that would affect the imports and exports to and from the country,” Mwani Qatar said, local media reported.

Containership Hansa Neuburg arrived in Hamad Port on Monday under Milaha’s DMJ.

Qatar is highly dependent on imports for essentials such as food and prior to last weeks ban imports moved either via neighbouring ports in countries such as UAE or over the land border with Saudi Arabia.

“A total of 12 direct calls per month to Hamad Port from Sohar port have been added and Mwani Qatar reiterates its commitment to managing Qatar’s ports and providing a stable platform for supply-chain for Qatar’s economy,” the company said.

International shipping line Maersk is launching its own feeder service from Salalah in Oman to Qatar to beat the sanctions.
