New VLOC for OSC

New VLOC for OSC
Muscat - Oman Shipping Company (OSC) has taken delivery of Very Large Ore Carrier (VLOC) Vale Shinas, which will be used to transport iron ore from Brazil to the Vale pelletisation plant in Sohar.

The vessel marks the completion of a four-vessel order by OSC, from Jiangsu Rongsheng Heavy Industries Company in Nantong, China.

The Shinas, like the other vessels, recorded an EEDI rating of 1.99 during sea trials, effectively meeting benchmark requirements on emission reduction set by the IMO, which entered effect on the first of January.

The VLOC will become the 43rd to join OSC’s fleet since it began operations in 2003, with a further vessel, an LNG carrier, still under construction. The delivery, due in 2014, will bring the fleet up to 8m dwt.
