Sohar Port sees 12% increase in throughput for 2015
The Sohar Port and Freezone saw a 12% increase in volumes in 2015 to over 50m tons.

The port saw a 46% rise in breakbulk cargoes to over 1.9m tons, and ro-ro traffic grew by more 90% to 230,000 vehicles in 2015 compared to 2014.

Sohar also trumpeted a 62% increase in container throughput, but did not say how many boxes the port handled. Last year the port added calls by Hanjin Shipping, Evergreen Line and Simatech.

“An average cargo throughput of close to a million tons a week in 2015, is testament to the success of our operations at Sohar. Our rapid growth further strengthens our position as the new Gateway to the Gulf region and our continued development as a very significant regional logistics hub,” Andre Toet, ceo of Sohar told a business reception held in Muscat on Tuesday.
