Transworld and Nawah alliance to boost Basra box flows
Two Dubai-based companies, Transworld Group and Nawah have announced a formal agreement to service Iraqi import demand by combining shipping, logistics, marine services and port capabilities.

Transworld Group and Nawah Port Management (NPM), the port operations unit of logistics concern Nawah, aim to increase the flow of goods sourced from the Middle East, India, Far East and South-East Asia into the port of Basra and beyond through landside links to commercial centres throughout Iraq.

NPM operates the first container terminal in the Port of Basra, on the Shatt Al Arab waterway. Along with sister company Nawah Supply and Distribution, NPM offers supply-chain services for cargo being transhipped into the UAE’s Jebel Ali Port and bound for Iraq’s oil and gas fields and other markets.

“Iraq stands at an important moment, historically and commercially, and we are keen to play a part in this phase of growth,” said Ritesh S. Ramakrishnan, Transworld Group’s director of strategy and business planning.

Set up in 1976, Transworld Group owns and operates a fleet of 30 vessels and has offices at major ports in the UAE and GCC. It also has a presence in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the US.
