USCG sets port condition X-Ray for Jacksonville as hurricane Dorian advances

The US Coast Guard (USCG) is advising oceangoing vessels to make plans to depart the Port of Jacksonville and Fernandina as it sets the port condition to X-Ray with hurricane Dorian advancing towards the Florida coast.

The Coast Guard Captain of the Port (COTP) has set port condition X-ray for the Port of Jacksonville, Fernandina terminals, and facilities with the expectation of sustained gale force winds from hurricane Dorian arriving in the next 48 hours.

Under condition X-Ray the port remains open to all commercial traffic and transfer operations, however, vessels should make plans to leave the port.

“Mariners are reminded there are no safe havens in these facilities, and ports are safest when the inventory of vessels is at a minimum. All ocean-going commercial vessels and ocean-going barges greater than 500 gross tons should make plans for departing the port,” USCG said.

“Vessels bound for the Port of Jacksonville or Fernandina unable to depart 24 hours prior to threatening winds making landfall are advised to seek an alternate destination.”
