Salvors tow Hansa Brandenburg to Mauritius
The 1,740 teu Hansa Brandenburg is now under tow to Mauritius after salvors Five Oceans Salvage and SMIT Salvage extinguished the fire and successfully made a towing connection over the weekend.

The Liberia-flagged vessel caught fire on Friday, while travelling from Singapore to Durban, resulting in major damage to the aftmost cargo hold and the fore superstructure. Owner Leonhardt & Blumberg has reported that the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Meanwhile all of the vessel’s crew survived unharmed, having been picked up by Hermann Buss-owned containership Donau Trader.

It is the second major fire on a container vessel in the Indian Ocean this month after the fore section of the stricken boxship MOL Comfort caught fire and later sank while being towed to Oman.
