Singapore opens new seafarer drop-in centre

Singapore has opened a new drop in centre for seafarers at Pasir Panjang Terminal which is set to benefit up to 20,000 seafarers that call at the terminal each month.

The new drop-in centre at Pasir Panjang Terminal 5 Building is managed by the Mission to Seafarers (MTS) is a 36 sq m facility and will be open from 10am to 10pm daily. The facility was opened on Tuesday, The Day of the Seafarer 2019, by Captain M. Segar, assistant chief executive (operations) of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Services at the drop in centre include free Wi-Fi, computers with internet, telephone service, light refreshments, reading materials, and entertainment such as TV, soccer table and dart boards. There will be both on demand and scheduled buses to the drop-in centre for seafarers.

It is the fourth seafarer drop-in centre with the others located at Jurong Port, Keppel Terminal and Pasir Panjang Terminal Building 1, and the second international drop-in centre managed by the MTS.

MPA also distributed a SGD150,000 in total grant to the Apostleship of the Sea, the Danish Seamen’s Church, the International Lutheran Seafarers' Mission, the Mission to Seafarers Singapore, and the Norwegian Seamen's Church to support their seafarer welfare work.
