UDS orders new diving support vessel at Chinese yard

UDS orders new diving support vessel at Chinese yard
Singapore-based Ultra Deep Group (UDS) has booked a new multipurpose diving support construction vessel (DSCV) at China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI).

The 8,000-dwt ultra deepwater offshore vessel is slated to be delivered in the first quarter of 2018, and represents the largest vessel that UDS is building right now.

UDS said the latest order is in line with the company’s strategic plan to spearhead the development and operation of efficient, cost-effective diving and support vessels in the oil and gas industry. It added this is the second order for a DSCV at CMHI.

The DSCV, to be based on proprietary design Red Class 6027, is a DP3 multipurpose subsea ship equipped with a 400-tonne crane, 1,500 sq m open deck space and Flash Tekk’s 24-man twin bell Saturation Dive System.

“We are thrilled with this contract and it affirms our company is heading in the right direction to build quality and size-appropriate vessels catered for the future market,” said Shel Hutton, ceo of UDS.

“The current slowdown in the market allows us time to ensure our designs are optimised and customised for relevance in the oil and gas industry,” he added.
