Both new and existing vendors supplying spare parts, stores and consumables will be required to demonstrate to the ship manager they have a viable plan to reduce plastic usage on the products.
“As a ship manager, we are able to procure at economies of scale and at the same time we own the responsibility to create a sustainable world. We need to consume less plastics in every way we could,” said Carl Schou, president and ceo of WSM
Schou posted on Linkedin about how at recent management meeting in Asia taking things into their own hands and cleaning a section of beach was an eye-opener to him to see how much plastic waste lying on the beach and coming from the sea.
WSM has pledged support to UNDP’s Sustainable Goals and earlier launched the #makingadifference campaign to urge staff both ashore and at sea to change their lifestyle and reduce plastic usage.
