ECSA appoints new secretary general

ECSA appoints new secretary general
Martin Dorsman, md of the Royal Association of Netherlands Shipowners (KVNER), has been chosen as new secretary general of ECSA (European Community Shpowners’ Associations). He replaces Patrick Verhoeven who left in the summer to head up the International Association of Ports & Harbours (IAPH).

Dorsman is a former civil servant who worked for six years in the Dutch government’s shipping policy department before joining KVNER, initially as deputy md before moving up to the top post in 2011. He has also contributed to the work of bodies such as the International Chamber of Shipping and European Sustainable Shipping Forum, and has chaired ECSA’s Shipping Policy Committee and Taxation Working Group.

On behalf of the ECSA Board president Niels Smedegaard warmly welcomed the incoming secretary general, referring to his “strong expertise and experience in global shipping policy matters.”

“ECSA will continue to play a pro-active role in important topics such as the reduction of CO2-emissions of shipping while at the same time safeguarding and strengthening the business climate in Europe for shipping,” pledged Dorsman, who takes up his new position on 1 November.
