Evac acquires Cathelco in cleantech and ballast water systems expansion

Finland’s Evac Group is acquiring shipping and offshore equipment manufacturer Cathelco as it bolsters its cleantech business.

Through the acquisition announced yesterday Cathelco’s pipework anti-fouling, hull corrosion protection, fresh water generation, and ballast water treatment systems will become part of the Evac Complete Cleantech Solution. Evac said the acquisition would expand its Cleantech portfolio and see it move in ballast water treatment systems.

Evac Group ceo and president Tomi Gardemeister commented, “An extended cleantech system offering, together with an enlarged sales and service network, will allow us to offer a more comprehensive range of solutions and services to our customers.”

He particularly highlighted the opportunities in the ballast water treatment systems area which sees with both international and US regulations. “This acquisition provides a tremendous opportunity for Evac and Cathelco to work together to become a leader in the field of ballast water treatment systems,” added Gardemeister. “Demand for these types of solutions is growing rapidly following the introduction of new IMO and US Coast Guard (USCG) regulations relating to ballast water treatment.”

Justin Salisbury, group managing director of Cathelco Group, said: “Our already broad geographic footprint and expertise in cleantech systems will be augmented considerably by Evac’s broad portfolio, which will enable our customers to meet all their needs from a single reliable partner.”

Cathelco’s revenues for 2016/17 were EUR31m, which would translate into a 30% increase in Evac’s turnover to EUR136m.

No financial details of the deal were released.
