Nakilat-Keppel Offshore Marine's (N-KOM) has capitalised on its LNG experience in the first half of 2014, with LNG-related work topping a diverse list of projects.

The marine and offshore yard signed an LNG retrofit contract with HeLenGi for Greek ferries as part of the Poseidon-Med project. Poseidon-Med is a large scale project to promote the adoption of LNG bunkering in the Mediterranean. Coordinated by Qatar Petroleum International's partner Qenergy, the project aims to introduce LNG as the dominant fuel for shipping by developing an implementation plan for the transport, distribution and bunkering of LNG, using Qatar as the source for the fuel.

"N-KOM has rapidly established a name for itself in the gas carrier repair market with its strong track record of safe, quality and timely deliveries. The landmark agreement not only signifies our growing reputation in the important Greek shipping industry but also serves to further strengthen our position as the preferred gas solutions provider internationally," commented Albert Kee, general manager (operations) at N-KOM.

On the repair front, N-KOM has delivered over 100 gas carrier repairs, with work recently completed on STASCo LNG carriers Al Nuaman and Mozah and work currently underway on MOL's LNG carrier Al Zubarah and NYK's Al Khor.

The yard has also completed significant repair and maintenance work on a number of dredgers, pipe laying cranes, LPG carriers, supply vessels, AHTS vessels and tugs during the period.

Extensive repair and refurbishment work was carried out on two jack-up rigs, from Shelf Drilling and Gulf Drilling International, bringing the total number of rig repairs at the yard to 20 over the past three years.

N-KOM is based in Qatar and is a 80 - 20% joint venture between Qatar Gas Transport Company (Nakilat) and Singapore-based rig and offshore vessel building group Keppel Offshore & Marine.
