Torm has inked an agreement with Alfa Laval to fit ballast water treatment systems (BWTS) across its product tanker fleet.

Under the agreement Torm will retrofit Alfa Laval PureBallast 3 Ex systems on 36 existing product tankers in its fleet and on 11 newbuildings. Torm’s product tanker fleet ranges from 36,000 dwt to 114,000 dwt and the vessels will be equipped with large-flow PureBallast 3 Ex systems of 2000 m3/h.

The installations will be carried out between 2019 and 2024 and the units will provide remote performance monitoring.

“Based on careful evaluation of the solutions on the market and our experience with PureBallast 3 Ex on board, we are confident that Alfa Laval is the right choice for ballast water treatment on our tankers,” said Jesper S Jensen, head of technical division at Torm.

“The system’s high performance, in combination with Alfa Laval’s global presence and service offering, will mean compliance security for our vessels.”

The deal was formally agreed at SMM in Hamburg last week.
