Varo Energy has established a new marine fuels supply location in Germany’s Bremerhavan, with products including the IMO 2020-compliant very low sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO).

The integrated downstream company has deployed one 1,850-dwt barge for operation in Bremerhaven and surrounding area. The marine fuel grades available include VLSFO with maximum sulphur content of 0.5% and marine gasoil (MGO) with 0.1% sulphur.

“Offering choice to our many international clients is a key driver for Varo. As a fully integrated fuels value chain supplier, we cover the full process from production to the delivery to our customers, which provides us with the flexibility required to meet market demand,” said Chris Venema, head of Varo’s fuel oil bunkering business.

At Varo Energy’s base in Hamburg port, the full marine product portfolio consists of high sulphur fuel oil, VLSFO and MGO. The company operates two barges of 4,150-dwt in Hamburg.

Varo Energy already has a strong presence in Hamburg from where it serves all locations on the river Elbe including Kiel Canal.

Varo Energy, jointly owned by Vitol and Carlyle International Energy Partners, owns and operates assets including Cressier refinery in Switzerland and a 45% share of Bayernoil refinery in Germany.
