Nikeel Idnani, secretary of the IMarEST UAE branch, pointed out that underwater in-situ services minimize vessel downtime and help maintain the profitability of the shipping company.
The seminar showcased the underwater repair and maintenance capabilities of Trident Underwater services acquired by Wärtsilä in 2018. This year the company opened a new diving centre facility in Fujairah, UAE.
Adrie Huijbregts who is currently a Senior Consultant at Wärtsilä Underwater Services, and founder of Trident Diving, explained that Wärtsilä had become the first OEM with a global underwater services footprint. Utilising underwater repairs allows for work to be carried out while the ship is in port and eliminates the need for time c0nsuming and expensive drydocking.
Trident also offers services such as hull cleaning. “A clean, friction-free hull is key to maximizing the fuel efficiency of a vessel as it glides through the water. Trident offers regular maintenance such as hull cleaning and propeller polishing creating an unrivalled reputation as the number one provider of highly skilled underwater services,” said Huijbregts.
The seminar also showcased the new, compact Wärtsilä 14 engine.
“Having the Wärtsilä 14 engine and Underwater services in our portfolio enables us to offer an even wider solution range which greatly improves the total efficiency of our customers operations and enhances environmental sustainability,” said Rajan Khanna, head of Wärtsilä Marine Business in the Middle East.
