The order from Redrijj Groen came after two chasers, Aquarius-G and Astra-G, were delivered earlier this year.

The new 35 x 8.70 m vessels, scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of 2014 with an option for a third, identical vessel in 2015, are equipped with two Azimuth thrusters, each powered by a 500kw electric motor, in turn powered by three Caterpillar generator sets.

The new SRSVs will often operate alongside other vessels, assisting with board-to-board transhipment of goods and equipment.

Groen says that the stability and manoeuvrability of the vessels are important for the slow-speed operation of seismic research: “The new design allows just that.”
