Vard Holdings has signed a Letter of Intent for its largest ever vessel order, an offshore subsea  construction vessel (OSCV) for Solstad Offshore.

The VARD 3 19-designated vessel, developed at Ålesund-based Vard Design, will be the largest the company has ever constructed, at 180 m long and 33 m wide, with a 2,500 m deck area. The design will feature a 550 tone top-tension vertical lay system for pipelaying, as well as a 600 tonne active-heave-compensated (AHC) crane and a 4,000 tonne cable spool underneath the deck.

Building will take place in a modular setup, with the hull to be constrcted Vard Tulcea in Romania and outfitting to take place at Vard Brattvaag in Norway.

The vessel is slated for delivery in the second quarter of 2016.
