China Merchants Heavy wins deal to build four liftboats

China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) will construct four self-elevated liftboats for Haiheng Ship Engineering, building on an existing two units that were ordered earlier.

Work on the four new liftboats is scheduled to start in September 2015, and all of them will be delivered by September 2017, according to Haiheng Ship Engineering.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

The four liftboats are named Haiheng 8 to 11 and they will be suitable for operations in the Northern Hemisphere, reaching depths of 160 feet.

“In view of the challenging offshore industry at present, the company continues to believe that the investments into the latest four new liftboats are necessary in view of the long term growth prospects of the market,” Haiheng Ship Engineering stated.

China Merchants Heavy Industry (Shenzhen) has built two other liftboats for Haiheng Ship Engineering.
