The contract is the first Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Redeployment Upgrade Contract to be carried out at a European shipyard, Damen claims, and a “major step” in its development as a full service conversion group.

On completion of the work, the vessel will be redeployed at the Atlanta field in Brazil, where the upgrades will ensure compliance with local regulations.

Scope of the work includes fabrication and procurement of new equipment and integration of onboard processes and new coatings, as well as hull and life extension upgrades according to Class, and performance testing.

“By taking on responsibility for the hull, topside conversion and its integration, DSR was able to offer Teekay a turnkey package with regards to safety, quality, budget and delivery time,” said DSR in a statement.

The news comes in spite of a difficult period for European shipyards, following the cancellation of many offshore repair contracts because of falling oil prices. The increased requirement for more sophisticated offshore vessels is also one of the major topics under discussion at the 2015 Sea Asia Offshore Marine Forum this week.
