Death toll in BW Offshore FPSO explosion rises to five, four still missing
The death toll in the BW Offshore operated FPSO Cidade de São Mateus offshore Brazil has risen to five with four still missing.
“Based on the latest information we have, five fatalities have been confirmed. Four of our men are still missing,” said Carl Arnett, ceo of BW Offshore in a statement. “This is a tragic day, and our primary focus now is on the crew and their families. We cannot rest until the last four of our men are found.”
There were 74 crew onboard the vessel at the time of the accident.
“All others are accounted for and receiving medical care where needed, with two in critical condition and have been taken off the unit. Next of kin are informed and crew and families are now receiving support from our local response team. Production has been stopped and the unit has been shut down,” Arnett said.
The FPSO is operated for Petrobras by BW Offshore in the Camarupim and Camarupim Norte fields in Espirito Santo littoral approximately 120 km from the coast.
