Havila Shipping is laying-up two of its five AHTS vessels that operate in the North Sea hit by tough market conditions.

The Norwegian owner said it would be laying-up the vessels Havila Mars and Havila Neptune. As a result an unspecified number of employees will be laid-off and there will also be reduced needs for the hire of crew.

Explaining the move Havila said: “The decision is made as a consequence of the actual market conditions. The company does not expect that the market will improve in short- or medium-term.

“The main challenge is the supply side, and this measure will have a positive effect on this,” it added.
