Singapore shipyard group Keppel Offshore & Marine has delivered its first rig newbuilding of the year to Borr Drilling.

The KFELS B Class design jack-up rig Heimdal was delivered from Keppel FELS, part of Keppel O&M, to Borr Drilling earlier this week.

It is the fifth of 11 jack-up rigs that Borr Drilling is building at Keppel. A relative newcomer to the rig market established by former John Fredriksen right hand man Tor Olav Troim and bought up a number of rig newbuildings terminated by other customers after the collapse in the oil price and the offshore drilling market.

“We are pleased to deliver our first rig of the year, which is also the fifth jack-up rig that we have built for Borr Drilling. The KFELS B Class is a proven workhorse of the industry and we are confident Heimdal will contribute to Borr Drilling’s exploration efforts,” said Tan Leong Peng, executive director (newbuilds) of Keppel O&M.

“Jack-up utilisation has been increasing and there is a strong market preference for high spec rigs as older rigs are being retired. With our strong track record in design, engineering and execution, Keppel O&M is committed to providing value added solutions for our customers.”

Following the latest delivery Borr Drilling has eight KFELS B Class rigs in its fleet.
