The 17,000 cu m tankers are scheduled for delivery between October 2015 and May 2016. The contract includes options for delivery of up to four additional vessels of the same type. The new vessels will supplement Odfjell’s existing fleet of two 9,000 cu m carriers.
Odfjell expressed a strong vote of confidence in Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering, calling it, “One of the very few construction facilities in China able to meet Odfjell's quality standards for building of such ships”.
“This newbuilding order is an important step in our long-term strategy to grow and become a significant owner and operator in the gas market,” the company added.
