Sembcorp Marine has entered into an engineering and construction contract worth around $1bn with Heerema Offshore Services (HOS) to build a new DP3 semi-submersible crane vessel.

The contract follows an earlier letter-of-intent signed between Sembcorp Marine’s wholly-owned subsidiary Jurong Shipyard and HOS in March this year for the vessel.
The dual-fuel semi-submersible crane vessel is scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2018. It will be equipped with two Huisman heavy lifting offshore cranes of 10,000 tonnes lifting capacity each and a large reinforced work deck area.
William Gu, head of Sembcorp Marine rigs and floaters, said the company’s new facilities at Tuas in Singapore boost deeper quayside draft and wider dock space, allowing the company to penetrate into the deepwater draft market segment.
The semi-submersible crane vessel will be built at Sembcorp Marine Tuas Boulevard Yard, which has seven dry docks and a steel fabrication facility.
Jan Pieter Klaver, ceo of Dutch firm Heerema Marine Contractors, parent firm of HOS, said: The new vessel’s two tub mounted cranes and dual fuel engines will enable Heerema Marine Contractors to offer unparalleled installation and decommissioning services.”
