Terengganu's Kay Marine aims higher

Terengganu-based shipbuilder Kay Marine is looking to expand by tendering for more international contracts in future.

The company is one of the few yards in the state that has reached international standard, winning five international tenders from clients in Australia, Nigeria and Mauritius since 2000, local reports said.

Chairman Wan Md Albakri Md Noor was quoted as saying the company had just completed their latest two aluminium barges ordered by the Australian government, noting Kay Marine had beaten other bidders for the MYR7.5m ($2.1m) job.

Kay Marine has previously been focussing only on Malaysian government jobs including for the Police and Fire and Rescue Department.
