Antwerp particulate emissions discount brings potential port dues savings to 30%Antwerp particulate emissions discount brings potential port dues savings to 30%
The Port of Antwerp has elected to grant a discount to vessels which cut particulate emissions, stacking with its existing Environmental Ship Index (ESI) 10% discount scheme.

The initiative, beginning on 1 June, will allow vessels up to 30% off port dues, if eligible for both schemes. LNG-powered vessels will be eligible for a 20% discount, while vessels equipped with closed-loop scrubbers will get 15%.
Introduced for three years, the particulate emissions discount will gradually reduce over time, according to a statement, “in order to reward the ‘early adopters’ who make the necessary investment now.”
The discount will tally with the ESI discount, which is awarded based on a system of credits ranging from 0 to 100 that ships can earn for having regulation-beating low NOx, SOx and CO2 emissions, with ships that obtain 31 or more credits eligible for a 10% port dues reduction. Antwerp is one of 25 ports, and 3,067 ships, to use this system.
“With this additional environmental discount Antwerp Port Authority seeks to encourage investments in green technologies for more sustainable shipping, by supporting and rewarding these technology pioneers,” the Port said.
